Today marks the launch of CompWALK 3.2, so what does that mean exactly?
It means mass amounts of energy drinks were consumed (now switching to a healthier drink option). Our developers have been working hard to deliver a more comprehensive lite platform to benefit organizations of all sizes. We took the best features of our enterprise solution and tailored them to be delivered affordably, on a smaller scale.
Supported on Windows 10
Most notably, the biggest feature of CompWALK 3.2 is that it is supported on Windows 10 and is available in the Windows Store as a native application. A week after launching, Windows reported that over 75 million users had downloaded Windows 10 and after their devices talk on October 6, they reported that 110 million devices were running on Windows 10. We have also seen the growing popularity of Surface tablets being provided to workers on-the-go because they are lightweight, have an attachable keyboard, and are affordable. Paired with the new Surface 3 offering 4G cellular connectivity, it was a no-brainer to make CompWALK available on Windows 10…and it looks better than ever.
“Every hour we spent on the Windows 10 app we got at least two hours back in new functionality or enhancements, leading to a more fully featured application than what we set out to do” says Jarred Capellman, Technical Director for CompWALK. One feature led to another when he and his development team started pushing code, they were ahead of schedule and were able to add more functionality than originally planned.
We have heard from many clients and prospects that they need the ability to assess and audit without a Wi-Fi connection, so we made that a top priority of the new launch. What is great about this functionality is if you lose internet connection during your audit, you can be sure you won’t lose any data. There is no need to sync the information you have collected once you regain a connection, it only takes a half a second once you have internet to upload all of the files, pictures, information etc. that you recorded. You can continue your audit without interruption.
Video Recording Upload
The ability to upload pictures to an audit has been noted as a key feature of CompWALK. We took that a step further with this release and now allow users in the field to take videos and upload them to an audit or incident. The more information provided the better, and if a picture doesn’t give enough insight into the problem, you can record a video on the spot and attach it to a report.
Since conducting audits and inspections typically involves your workforce traveling to multiple locations, we added turn-by-turn driving directions. Your auditors don’t even have to exit the CompWALK application when traveling to and from locations.
When a report is created after the completion of an audit, CompWALK automatically generates a customizable cover page. We have now included the ability to add a picture to this page. Including the picture of a building or site can be helpful when reviewing multiple reports at a time for various locations.
